Advance Care Planning After a Cancer Diagnosis

Alan Nguyen, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in the Melanoma and Skin Center at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He received his Masters of Social Work degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and also has certification as an oncology social worker. In the five years in the Melanoma and Skin Center, his role as a Social Work Counselor has included providing support to patients and their support systems as part of an interdisciplinary team by providing supportive counseling, psychosocial education, connecting patients to community resources, addressing home safety concerns, and helping patients engage in advance care planning discussions.
