Monocular Vision Driving Safety and Compensatory Strategies (4 of 4 in series)

Since starting with Duke Health in 1989 as an occupational therapist, I have worked with a wide variety of clients and covered in areas of acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehab, hand therapy, and home-based care. I have appreciated the opportunity to work in this progressive clinical environment where quality client care is a priority. I have obtained specialty certifications in driving rehabilitation and low vision, and currently incorporate these specialties in Vision Rehabilitation and Performance at the Duke Eye Center with individuals with age-related, acute onset, and neurologically-based vision impairments. My focus in treatment is to help clients maximize their independence and safety to meet their functional occupational performance goals. I have also appreciated the opportunity to train occupational therapist interns, participate in vision impairment research studies, and present on clinical treatment techniques at the local, state and national level. I have always enjoyed the creative aspect that occupational therapy offers, and try to carry this over into my own hobbies to maintain a healthy life balance.
